The Citrus College Men’s Soccer team is somewhat struggling to find its identity. They seemed to have hit their stride when they got their first victory with a 3-0 win over Victor Valley. They were making sharp passes, playing decent defense, and communicating on the field.  Tonight against Cuyamaca the Owls seemed to be the complete opposite.

Pablo Acosta takes the ball for the OwlsAfter scoring the first goal of the half thanks in part to Phillip Bremner’s quick reaction off of a rebound, the Owls seemed to be on their heals the entire first half. The Owls were out-shot 9 to 3 during that first half, including allowing 7 shots on goal. The first strike for Cuyamaca came in the 14th minute when Nick Fortini found the back of the net off a Julio Leon assist tying the game up at 1-1. Just 4 minutes later lightning struck again this time off of the foot of Hezha Sulyman putting Cuyamaca up 2-1.

The one thing the Owls seemed to do well in the first half was take advantage of their situations. The first goal of the game by Phillip Bremner was thanks in part to the Owls getting Cuymaca goalie Daniel Craig up and out of the box. Once Craig was out of the box he mishandled the ball leaving the ball at the foot of Bremner with nothing but a wide open net in front of him. Bremner didn’t think twice. The second goal for the Owls came with just 8 minutes left in that first half. The Owls being dominated mostly on the pitch got a steal when Travis Greene set a 50 yard laser to Luis Jaime who buried the shot in the back of the net to tie the game up.

Randall McMurray goes for the ballIn the second the half the Owls had fresh legs, and came out firing. The Owls mustered 6 shots including3 shots on goal in the second half, but Cuyamaca proved to be too much again, dominating with 11 shots,8 of which came on goal.
In the 68th minute Cuyamaca struck the fatal blow when Satoru Narue nailed his shot to put the Coyotes up 3-2, where the score would stay until the end of the game.

In the loss the Owls drop to 1-2-1. Next up for the Owls is LA Southwest on for a 3:00 pm match-up at Citrus Stadium.
