Glendora, CA - On Tuesday August 29, the Citrus College Men’s Soccer team played host to the NSCAA/Adidas #12 ranked team in the nation, LA Harbor College. “They are one of the best teams in the southland,” said Owl’s Head Men’s Soccer Coach Fred Bruce-Oliver. “They are good every year and they get better every season.” The Seahawks of LA Harbor controlled the tempo of the game tallying 20 shots, 12 of which came on goal, while cruising to a 3-0 victory of the Owls.
The loss wasn’t without effort as the Owls managed 4 shots, including 3 on goal, against the Seahawks stingy defense. Owl goalkeeper Felix Andrez did his best, but the relentless pursuit of the Seahawk offense was too much for him to handle, as he gave up 3 goals and mustered 9 saves. Andrez play was the highlight for the Owls, as he was tested early and often. “He showed some athleticism tonight,” Bruce-Oliver said. “He just needs to be more vocal out there.”
The Seahawks spread around the wealth as 13 players from their roster registered at least 1 shot or assist for the match. “We hung with them for a while.” Bruce-Oliver said. “I schedule this match for us every year because I know it is going to be a rough match.”
With the loss the Owls move to 0-1 on the season, while LA Harbor improves to 1-0-1. The Owls next game with be Friday September 1st, when Cypress College visits Citrus Stadium for a 3:00 pm match-up.
