Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) – Since kicking off its season with its best ever start of 4-2 through its first six games, the Fighting Owls hit a slump over its next six contest going 0-2-4 through that stretch. Citrus seems to have righted the ship as it picked up its second win in a row with a 2-0 victory over Glendale Tuesday evening.
The Owls dominated most of the play on the pitch, playing the aggressor to Glendale’s passive attack. Citrus wound up out-shooting the Vaqueros 12 to 4. The Owls got things going in the 26th minute when Greg Garcia drew a penalty kick after being taken down inside the goal-keepers box. Garcia set his shot up and drove it home in the bottom right hand corner of the net to give Citrus a 1-0 lead.
In the second half the Owls stayed on the aggressive offensive play, having numerous shots fall just short of it its objective. The Fighting Owls were able to cushion their lead however as they took advantage of their play in the 58th minute.
As they pressed the ball up the right hand side of the field, the Owls mid-fielders found Eddie Gutierrez who had wrangled himself free of the Vaquero defense. With only the goalie to beat Gutierrez sent a laser towards the right-hand side of the goal. The ball went past the goalie, but hit the right post. With the ball coming back into play Raul Del Rio, was their ready to pounce as he buried the ball into the back of the net, to give Citrus a 2-0 lead.
