Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) – With the Citrus College men’s soccer team off to it’s hottest start in team history, the Fighting Owls were looking forward to Friday’s big match-up with the states 9th ranked team, San Diego City College. While the Fighting Owls, didn’t come away celebrating, they did leave with their heads held high as they settled for their third consecutive tie, 0-0.
The game on the pitch wasn’t exactly an offensive out-pouring, as both teams spent most of the game trying to control the ball in the middle of the field. Each team had chances to score, but both the Knight’s goalie, Robin Gilson, and the Fighting Owl’s goalie, Felix Andrez, played well as bother pitched shut-outs.
In the first half San Diego City controlled the ball offensively, as it recorded six shots and four corner kicks. The Owl’s, who dug in their heals on defense, spent most of that 1st half waiting for a special opportunity to strike while recording four shots, two less than the Knight’s.
The 2nd half proved to be much of the same, with both goalies continuing to pitch their shut-out’s. Citrus became a bit more aggressive offensively in the 2nd half recording seven goals, to San Diego’s six. The Owl’s had a few opportunities, but just missed on a few of their shots to come up empty handed.
With the tie, Citrus moves to 4-2-3 on the season. With the game against San Diego City this afternoon, the Fighting Owl’s pre-season comes to a close. Citrus kicks off its Western State Conference slate with back to back road games at LA Mission on Tuesday and Santa Barbara on Friday. Tuesday’s game with LA Mission is set for 4:00 P.M.
