Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Men’s Soccer team continued their struggles on Friday afternoon when they played host to Glendale College. The Fighting Owls out-shot the visiting Vaqueros by nearly a 3 to 1 margin, but still came up empty handed in a 3-1 loss.
Glendale would get on the board first in Friday’s Western State Conference tilt. The Vaqueros’ Rafael Reyes broke away from a pack of Citrus defenders and found the back of the net in the 33rd minute giving Glendale a 1-0 lead.
The Vaqueros would add to it almost thirty minutes later when Jason Acosta struck pay dirt after yet another break away. Citrus would finally get on the board in the 78th minute when Ryan Peck scored off a misplay by the Glendale goalie, but the Vaqueros would put the game away for good when Tade Mirzaian scored in the 82nd minute to make the score 3-1.
Citrus took 11 shots in the first half and 10 in the second half, but struggled to put the ball in the goal. The Fighting Owls had numerous opportunities in the Glendale goalie box, but only once made good on their chances.
With the loss, Citrus falls to 2-8-2 overall and 0-5-1 in WSC play. Citrus will try and get something going next Tuesday as they wrap up the first round of WSC play with a road trip to Moorpark on Tuesday. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM.
