Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Men’s Soccer season came to a close on Thursday evening. The Fighting Owls were held winless in conference during their 2009 campaign as they fell to Moorpark College 3-1.
Citrus was dominated from the get go getting out-shot 19-6. Despite that, the Fighting Owls did have a chance to tie the game up late in the second half. Moorpark would score the first two goals of the game, the first in the 37th minute thanks to Gerardo Espinoza and the second in the 47th minute off the foot of Augustin Cazarez.
Trailing 2-0, the Fighting Owls finally got on the board when Jonathan Longo found George Tovar in the 84th minute. Tovar beat Moorpark goal keeper Barry Uko with a flick of the foot and gave Citrus a chance to shoot for a tie.
Unfortunately for Citrus, the Raiders put the game away for good in stoppage time when Fernando Zandarin scored to give Moorpark the final 3-1 advantage.
With the loss, Citrus’ season ends with a 2-16-2 overall record and 0-13-1 record in Western State Conference play, while Moorpark improves to 11-6-2 overall and 9-4-1 in conference games.
