Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) -- Citrus College sophomore Eddie Gutierrez will continue his playing career with NCAA Division II member University of Hawaii at Hilo. Gutierrez leaves Citrus as one of its all-time leading goal scorers with 15 goals in two seasons.
“Hawaii Hilo is a great fit for me. They really showed an interest in me and have the degree program that I am looking for,” Gutierrez said. “Thanks to these past two years at Citrus, I’m physically stronger and faster. I’ve also learned how to manage my time better, and gained a renewed focus on my academic work.”
Gutierrez joins a Vulcans squad that went 11-5-2 last season and just missed out on the program’s first ever playoff appearance.
“Eddie has helped push our program to its best two year record in program history,” said Citrus College Head Men’s Soccer Coach Fred Bruce-Oliver. “We know he will continue to be a winner at Hawaii Hilo, and will make our program proud.”
After earning All-WSC Honorable Mention honors as a freshman with six goals and one assists, Gutierrez broke out this past season leading Citrus to its best record in program history with a team high nine goals and six assists. For his efforts, Gutierrez was named a 1st team All-WSC selection.
