Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) -- Upon first inspection of the stats from Citrus College’s men’s soccer match-up with Oxnard, it might seem like the Fighting Owls nearly defeated the Condors. Despite Citrus firing just two shots less than Oxnard, the Fighting Owls were still far away as the Condors more than doubled Citrus’ shots on goal and corner kicks in a 0-1 loss on Friday afternoon.

In the first half, both teams would trade time controlling the ball, until Oxnard turned things around when Jonathon Martinez crossed the ball into Citrus’ goalie box in the 40th minute. The ball landed on opposite side of which way Citrus goalie Albert Torres was facing and directly at the feet of Emigdio Ramirez who promptly put the ball in the back of the net.

In the second half, Oxnard would control the tempo out-shooting in Fighting Owls by a margin of 7-5 in the last 45 minutes. Citrus’ best opportunity for the equalizer would come in the final ten minutes when Rafael Garcia sent a laser past the Oxnard defense that drilled the cross-bar and bounced back into the hands of the Condors.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 2-10-2 overall and 0-7-1 in conference play, while Oxnard improves to 8-5-2 overall and 4-3-1 in WSC play. Citrus will hit the road for their next two contests, beginning with Tuesday’s match at LA Mission. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
