Glendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) -- Over the past three seasons there has been no greater nemesis to the Citrus College Men’s Soccer team than LA Mission College. In six meetings, the Eagles have beaten the Fighting Owls five times. After Friday afternoon, that number went up to six times in seven meetings, as Mission outplayed Citrus with a 2-0 win.

Mission controlled the game from the opening kick, taking over the offensive tempo and forcing the issue with nine shots to Citrus’ three in the opening 45 minutes. Two of those nine shots would be goals as Oskar Cardenas struck pay dirt in the seventh minute and fellow Eagle William Velasquez did the same in the 45th minute.

Trailing by two goals, Citrus tried to get an offensive push going but LA Mission was relentless out-shooting the Fighting Owls 14-3 in the second half alone. The only stat Citrus would have an advantage would be in corner kicks, but none of those proved fruitful as Citrus was shut-out for the second straight game.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2 in WSC play, while Mission improves to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play. Citrus will try and bounce back from Friday’s set back this coming Tuesday as they play host to Santa Barbara. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
