Glendora, CA (Men’s Water Polo) – Freshman Conner Ruggio led a pack of six Fighting Owl’s who were given All-Western State Conference honors this past week. Ruggio, who led the Owl’s in goals scored (89) and steals (49), was named a 1st team All-WSC selection and a 2nd team All-Southern California selection.
Other Fighting Owl’s to earn 1st team honors were Douglas Moore, who was also a 1st All-WSC selection in 2005, and Gamal Rady. Moore, was third on the team in goals scored recording 70 goals on the year while leading the team in assists with 33. Rady, a freshman out of La Canada, scored 73 goals during the 2006 season connecting on 51% of his shot attempts.
Along with the 3 first-teamers, three more Fighting Owl’s were named to 2nd team All-WSC Conference honors. Ricardo Carrillo and Zach Perez garnered 2nd team nods, with each scoring 24 and 19 goals respectively on the season. Freshman goalie Tony Pearson was the other Owl to garner a 2nd team nod, recording 233 saves and blocking 42% of the shots that came his way.
