Glendora, CA (Men’s Water Polo) -- The first time Citrus College and Cerritos squared off, the Falcons ran away with the game, winning 20-5. This time Citrus’ kept it a little closer, but they still were on the losing end as the Fighting Owls lost to Cerritos 16-11 on Friday night.
The first period opened up with both teams struggling to get their offense going. Cerritos eventually took the lead however, as they went up 2-1 after the first. After a slow start in the first, the offensive attacks got going in the second with the Fighting Owls scoring three goals and Cerritos five.
Both teams would draw even in the third with each school scoring five goals, and Cerritos holding a 12-9 lead. Despite being close, the Owls fell just shy of the Falcons with Cerritos prevailing 16-11.
In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore Justin Coy who scored a team high five goals, and freshman Ahmed Elsherif who had a team high five assists. With the loss, Citrus falls to 5-8, while Cerritos improves to 8-2. The Fighting Owls will remain at home for the next two weeks beginning with next Wednesday’s WSC match-up with Ventura College. Game time is set for 4:15 PM.
