Saturday, November 08, 2008

Freshman Jordan Rivas had two goals in Citrus' 7-9 loss to LA Valley Glendora, CA (Men’s Water Polo) -- The LA Valley Men’s Water Polo team proved too much for Citrus to handle on Saturday afternoon, as the Fighting Owls season came to a close with a 7-9 loss to the Monarchs in the 3rd Place game of the WSC Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

After opening the game up with a Josh Rodriguez goal, Citrus was blitzed by LA Valley as they scored three straight goals, closing the first quarter with a 3-1 lead. Rodriguez opened the second quarter with another goal, but once again the Monarchs added to their lead, as they went ahead 6-3 at the half.

Citrus began to battle back in the third quarter thanks to another Rodriguez goal and a pair of goals from Jordan Rivas and Peter Smiley that cut the Valley lead to two points, but the Fighting Owls failed to get things kick started in the fourth, eventually losing by two goals.

In the game, Citrus was led by Rodriguez who scored a game high three goals, while Rivas added a pair of goals. With the loss Citrus’ season comes to an end, as the Fighting Owls finished their 2008 campaign with a 12-19 record and 2-5 Western State Conference record.
