Glendora, CA (Men’s Water Polo) -- Having won six of their last eight games, the Citrus College Men’s Water Polo team has been playing some of its best water polo of the season. Unfortunately for them though, the Fighting Owls ran into the #6 team in the State Ventura College in Wednesdays WSC match-up and were shutdown by the Pirates 15-8.
Citrus would stay close with Ventura to open the game trailing by just a goal less than four minutes into the game after an Andrew Gallegos score. After that though, the Pirates turned on the afterburners scoring four straight, and six of the final eight scores to take a 9-4 half-time lead.
Ventura would pick up right where they left off scoring the first two goals of the second half, before Citrus’ Josh Rodriguez stopped the bleeding with less than three minutes to play in the third quarter. It wouldn’t be enough though as Ventura matched Citrus’ out-put in the fourth.
In the loss, Rodriguez led Citrus with a team high three goals and one assist. After Wednesday’s game, Citrus falls to 10-11 overall and 1-2 in WSC play, while Ventura moves to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Fighting Owls will try and bounce back this weekend in their last tournament of the year as they head down to Huntington Beach to take part in the Golden West Tournament.
