Glendora, CA (Men’s Water Polo) -- Missing three of their top players the Citrus College Men’s Water Polo team struggled in the second and third periods against Cuesta College in their Western State Conference opener. Citrus was out-scored 9-1 in those two quarters, something that proved to be the difference in their 8-13 loss.
The Fighting Owls opened up the game well enough going tit for tat with the Cougars and finding themselves trailing by just a goal after the first quarter. That’s when things fell apart Cuesta went on to score nine of the next two points between the second and third frames putting Citrus well out of reach. Citrus would add four unanswered goals in the fourth, but by then it was too little too late.
In the loss, Citrus was led by Sophomore Jesse Johnston who scored a team high three goals and handed out a game high four assists along the way. With the loss, Citrus falls to 4-7 overall and 0-1 in WSC play. The Fighting Owls will remain at home all weekend long, as they play host to their own 16-team tournament.
