Glendora, CA (Men’s Water Polo) -- It had been two weeks since the Citrus College Men’s Water Polo team had been in the water, and at times it showed in Friday afternoon’s meeting with Miramar. Luckily for Citrus, they were just the better team as Sophomore Josh Rodriguez scored a game high four goals in a 16-7 win for the Fighting Owls.

Citrus wasted little time in applying pressure to the Jets scoring the first three goals of the match. Miramar would get on the board with four minutes to go in the first period, but the Fighting Owls notched two more in the first frame to take a comfortable 6-2 lead after one.

In the second quarter, Citrus completely took control with Rodriguez scoring two of the team’s three goals before the half, as the Fighting Owls went into the break cruising and up 9-2. Citrus would add four more goals in the third and then give four right back in the fourth, but by then the game was well out of reach for Miramar.

Along with Rodriguez, Sophomore Jesse Johnston also had a good showing with three goals and three assists. Freshman Michael D’Emilio would record a game high seven saves in relief of starter Stephen Dohner.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-6. The Fighting Owls will remain at home for the next week, as they open conference play next Thursday when they play host to Cuesta College. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
