Throughout the 2009-2010 Sport Seasons, the Citrus College Web-Site will feature Citrus College Student Athletes in a question and answer session about life as a Citrus College Athlete. This weeks feauture athlete is Lauren Pulley, sophomore Softball player.
1. How long have you been playing softball? Longer then I can actually remember probably. I first started playing when I was four and a half, starting with tee-ball and everything. Then I worked myself up through the ranks and am here now playing college softball, and I’m happy that I’m still playing.
2. Why did you choose Citrus College? I chose Citrus because I liked the way [Head] Coach [Jackie] Boxley presented the program to me. She told me that this would be the all-around best program for me. It would help me be able to succeed not only on the field but in life, pushing myself a little bit further then I’ve ever gone before. Coach Boxley helped me make that decision, and so far she has been right.
3. How have you changed as an athlete and a student? As a student I’ve grown up a lot. Especially compared to how I was before I started here. As an athlete I’ve become more of a leader. It’s pushing me to my limits, and helping me push myself to help my team succeed.
4. What are you majoring in? Law Enforcement. When I’m done with school I want to go into either the LAPD or pursue a career as a parole officer.
5. What has been your favorite academic class you have taken so far here at Citrus? The History of the Vietnam War. I took that class because [Assistant] Coach [Ed] Andersen talked to me a lot about that era in history, and got me interested in it. Sitting there in the class and listening to all of the stories, and all of the things they were doing in the war, it was just really interesting to me.
6. Who are some of the people that have affected your life in a positive way here at Citrus? The whole coaching staff of our softball team, and the girls on our team. I love them to death, and it’s nice having a team that’s like a family. Also the whole athletic training staff, Steve [Handy], Scott [Norman] and Traci [Stone], they were the ones who helped me get through my injury last year.
7. What are some of your best memories so far playing for Citrus? Definitely the road trips. Staying in the hotels, and making videos of us singing songs and then posting them on YouTube.
8. What is your favorite thing about going to Citrus? My favorite thing is just the atmosphere. I love the atmosphere here at Citrus. It’s not too big and it’s not too small, and it’s easy to get along with people here. It reminds me a lot of a little town.
9. Who has been the biggest influence in your life so far? The biggest influence in my life would have to be my parents, my sister, and nephew. My parents are my number one fan no matter what. No matter what I’ve done they will always be there for me. They’ve been the ones that have helped guide me through life. Everyone thinks that my parents were the ones making me play softball, but really I was the one dragging them out to the field. They support me in every decision I try to make.
10. If there was one thing that you could accomplish in the next year what would it be and why? That’s a hard one because there are too many things. If I have to name a few though, the first would be winning a conference championship for sure. I believe we can take our conference, and we have a team that has the ability to do great things. The second one would be getting a scholarship somewhere. A scholarship not only would benefit me, but it would help my family in the long run. The less money they have to pay for my school the better. It would be a big surprise to everyone too. Not only do my parents support me, but it’s my entire family. My aunts, my uncles, and everyone. They are all cheering me on to get a scholarship.
