Men’s B-Ball Bounces BackGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- After dropping just their second game of the season to LA Harbor yesterday evening, the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team bounced back on Wednesday afternoon with a strong 89-81 win over Oxnard College. Holiday HangoverGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Men’s Basketball team came out of their week and a half Christmas break and didn’t look like the Fighting Owl squad that won 12 of their first 13 contests in 2010. The Fighting Owls didn’t attack the basket instead settling for jumpers against the LA Harbor zone, and shot just 40.3% from the floor for the game and even more atrocious 47.4% from the charity stripe in their 69-77 loss on Tuesday evening to the Seahawks. Jefferson Named WSC South Player of the WeekGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Freshman Men’s Basketball player Garrett Jefferson was named this week’s Western State Conference South Player of the Week this week. Jefferson is the third Fighting Owl this year to earn the honor. Six Lady Owls Earn All-WSC South HonorsGlendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- After helping lead the Citrus College Women’s Soccer program to their second best season in program history, six Lady Owls were named to the All-WSC South list. Freshman Jasmine Williams and sophomore goal keeper Laura Guzman were Citrus’ two representatives on the 1st team list. Mitchell Leads Volleyball HonorsGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The 2010 All-Western State Conference South Division All-Conference List came out recently, and Citrus College sophomore Lindsey Mitchell was the headliner for the Lady Owls. Mitchell was one of just two athletes to earn consecutive 1st team nods, and was the lone Citrus athlete on the first team list. Turnovers Doom Lady Owls LateGlendora, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Women’s Basketball team turned the ball over a season high 28 times, and saw a late lead squandered in a 56-59 loss to Riverside on Friday night. Citrus led by as much as seven points with over four minutes to go, and led for all but two minutes and 50 seconds of Friday’s game. Charity Stripe ClutchGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Men’s Basketball team drilled nine of their 10 free-throw attempts in the final minute and 30 seconds of their contest with State #11 Ventura College. The Fighting Owls were able to stave off a furious Pirate rally thanks to their clutch shooting from the charity stripe as they picked up a 77-74 victory. Bachman Inks With ArizonaGlendora, CA (Football) -- Citrus College sophomore center Addison Bachman has signed a scholarship offer to continue his playing career with the Pac-10 conference member the University of Arizona. Bachman becomes the first Fighting Owl in 2010 to sign. Five From Men’s Soccer Earn All-ConferenceGlendora, CA (Men’s Soccer) -- Five Citrus College Athletes from the Citrus College Men’s Soccer team earned All-Conference post season honors. The Fighting Owls were led by sophomore point guard Donnel Phifer who gave and took away with a team high 18 points to go along with a game high six assists and game high three steals. Lady Owl’s Fall Just Shy Of First Tournament Championship Since 2007San Luis Obispo, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Women’s Basketball team has continued to show great strides as the season has gone along. The Lady Owls were ready to take a big step this weekend with their first Tournament Championship since 2007, but fell just shy as they lost to Orange Coast College in overtime by one point, 59-60 in the Championship Game of the 27th Annual Conoco Phillips Invitational. Marsh Named WSC South Player of the WeekGlendora, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- Citrus College freshman Ariel Marsh was named the Western State Conference South Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week last week. It’s the first such honor for Marsh in her young career. Washington Named WSC South Player of the WeekGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- For the second time in three weeks a Citrus College Men’s Basketball player has been named the WSC South Player of the Week. After Lateef McMullan earned the honor two weeks ago, fellow sophomore guard Hakeem Washington got the nod this week. StungFullerton, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Women’s Basketball suffered its fourth loss of the year on Tuesday evening when it was stung 50-68 by State #1 Fullerton College. Freshmen Shelly Gupilan and Ariel Marsh accounted for 76% of Citrus’ offense in the loss, as the rest of the Lady Owls struggled to score against a tough Hornet squad. A Good SignGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) – For the third time in four years the Citrus College Men’s Basketball team won their home hosted tournament the Neil Edwards Classic, as the Fighting Owls knocked off El Camino 89-74 on Sunday evening. That’s a good sign for Citrus, as the previous two times that Citrus has started off the season by winning the Knight’s Invitational and the Neil Edwards Classic, they have gone on to make at least the State Final Four. Double-Double DJGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Freshman DJ Shelton recorded his first double-double of the year, and the Fighting Owls finally shook off a pesky East LA squad late, as Citrus advanced to its second straight Neil Edwards Classic Championship Game with a 93-69 victory on Saturday evening. Hakeem’s a DreamGlendora, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- Sophomore guard Hakeem Washington scored a career and game high 18 points, and recorded four assists and four steals as he helped lead Citrus College to a impressive start in the opening round of the 2010 Neil Edwards Classic. The Fighting Owls had few problems on Friday afternoon, as they cruised to an 89-62 victory. 13 Fighting Owls Earn All-West Conference HonorsGlendora, CA (Football) -- Thirteen Fighting Owls were recognized this past weekend with Southern California Football Association All-West Conference Honors. Leading the pack was freshman offensive lineman Albert Cid, sophomore running back Brandon Stansell, freshman linebacker Jesse Tauillili, and sophomore defensive back Kevin Puckett who all earned 1st team nods. Women’s B-Ball Wins Consolation Championship, Marsh Breaks RecordBarstow, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Women’s Basketball team overcame an opening round loss to #14 Mt. San Jacinto and went on to win the Consolation Prize at the Barstow Holiday Inn Invitational. The Lady Owls were paced by a record setting weekend by freshman guard Ariel Marsh as they went on to pick up their first two victories in the McDonald Era. Lady Owls Drop Final Contest of SeasonSanta Clarita, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College Volleyball team’s 2010 season came to a close on Thursday evening in a tough four set loss at Canyons College. The Lady Owls got a season high 12 kills from Karina Jones, and a season high 29 digs from Isabel Pardo in a losing effort. Volleyball Sweeps Season Series With GlendaleGlendale, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team stopped a two game skid and swept the season series with Glendale College on Tuesday evening with a four set 25-13, 18-25, 26-24, and 25-20 win over the Vaqueros. Knighted Again, Again and AgainSan Diego, CA (Men’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Men’s Basketball team won the Knight’s Invitational hosted by San Diego City College for the fourth straight year on Sunday evening. The Fighting Owls dominated Cypress College 96-66 in the Championship Game, in what is almost becoming tradition for Citrus College. Long Beach’s Late 2-Point Conversion Drops CitrusGlendora, CA (Football) -- Citrus College Football’s final game of the season went down to the wire on Saturday afternoon. Long Beach City College converted a two point conversion with just over a minute to go, in what would be the winning two points in Citrus’ 31-32 loss. The Waiting GameGlendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – The Citrus College Women’s Soccer team took care of business on Thursday afternoon in a dominating 5-0 win over visiting LA Valley College. Now all that’s left for them is a waiting game, as Citrus waits to find out whether or not they qualify for their first playoff berth in program history. A Tragedy of ErrorsGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team struggled on Thursday evening in their match with Santa Monica. Puckett Name West Conference Player of the WeekGlendora, CA (Football) -- Citrus College sophomore football player Kevin Puckett was named the West Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. It’s the second time in Puckett’s two year career at Citrus that he has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, and the first this year. Keep Hope AliveSylmar, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Women’s Soccer team kept their playoff hopes alive on Tuesday afternoon after they snapped a two game skid with a 4-0 win at LA Mission College.
