Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Lady Owls scored 13 runs on 13 hits, quickly shaking off any rust after a seven-day layoff. Citrus needed just five innings for the 13-1 mercy win over East LA.
The Owls jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Shauna Buckholtz led off with a single and scored on an error two batters later. Then Caitlin Tolan knocked her fourth homer of the season over the left-centerfield fence for two runs.
Corinne Milligan then led off the third inning with a single and after a collection of errors and an RBI double by Jessica Alvarez, Citrus was ahead 6-1. The Huskies scored a run in the top of the fourth inning on a pair of doubles.
Citrus then put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning as the first eight batters reached base and seven runs scored. Alvarez (9-4) finished with six strikeouts over five innings of work to get the victory for the Owls.
Buckholtz finished the game batting 3-for-4 with two runs and Jessica Smith was 2-for3 with two RBI. Tolan finished with three RBI and two runs, batting 1-for-1 with a pair of walks.
Citrus will be back in action on Tuesday as they play host to College of the Canyons in an important Western State Conference double-header. Canyons, ranked #19 in California, is 9-3 in conference play, while Citrus is 7-3.
