Lady Owls Shutout Oxnard 

Glendora, CA (Softball) – The Citrus College Lady Owls softball team continued to their torrential pace, with a 10-0 win over Oxnard on Monday afternoon. Jessica Alvarez went the distance in the win, throwing 5 innings of shut-out softball while only giving up 2 hits and striking out 4 batters.

Jessica AlvarezThe Lady Owls scored in every inning except the 4th, taking advantage of 4 Oxnard errors over the first 2 innings to score 5 runs. While the Lady Owls took advantage of the Oxnard mistakes it was the huge 5 run 3rd inning that pushed them over the edge.

After Alvarez, flied out to the begin the inning, short-stop Melanie Hansen came to the plate and hit a home-run to deep center field, drawing first blood in the 3rd. After Caitlin Tolan got on after an error by the Oxnard short-stop, Sarah Randall drew a walk, and Denis Hernandez came to the plate roping a single to right field and scoring Tolan.

The very next batter, Ashlie Paradez ripped a triple to right field scoring 2 runs, before she herself would score on a Jasmine Felix sacrifice. When all was said and done the Lady Owls had scored 5 runs, 4 earned on 4 hits in the 3rd alone.

The Lady Owls defense was superb as they allowed no runners to pass second base. The Lady Owls also recorded no errors in the win.

With the win the Lady Owls, ranked #5 in SoCal, move to 11-2 and 4-0 in WSC play. Alvarez, was awarded the win and moves her record to 4-1.
