Glendora, CA(Softball) – The Citrus College softball team continued its torrential 2007 pace with a 5-0 win over LA Pierce Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Owls shut-out the Brahma’s, as Corinne Milligan continued her dominance, pitching for 5 innings and no-hitting LA Pierce in all 5 innings she pitched.
Milligan was extremely dominant only allowing one batter on the bases, as she walked Jamie Domine in the top of 4th. Milligan retired 11 straight batters to start the game, and 15 of the 16 batters she faced. Milligan also recorded an astounding 9 strike-outs in her 7th win of the year.
Offensively the Lady Owls struggle to start off the game, but finally found their groove in the bottom of the fourth. Nicole Frusher kicked things off with a single to left-field. Melanie Hansen stepped up and also stroked a single to left-field before Sara Randall recorded the 1st out of the inning by sacrifice bunting the runners to second and third.
With runners in scoring position Chrystal Stratis recorded the first RBI of the day hitting yet another single to left field and driving in Frusher. Kristine Escujuri then came to the plate and followed the pattern of Stratis driving in Hansen. After Jasmine Felix singled to left field again loading the bases back up, Denis Hernandez singled to center field driving in Stratis and Escujuri. The inning ended two batters later, but not before the Lady Owls had struck a fatal blow.
The Lady Owls would score again in the bottom of the fifth, as Stratis got her second RBI of the day by hitting a deep sacrifice fly to left-field, scoring Melanie Hansen who was sitting on third base.
After pitching five shut-out innings Milligan sat the rest of the day down, as Citrus brought in Jessica Alvarez to finish off the game with a 5 run lead. Alvarez struggled to get things going however as she gave up 2 singles to start the top of the 6th. After committing an error to load up the bases with no outs, Alvarez settled down, getting the next batter to hit into a double play and the second to ground out to end the Pierce threat.
With the win the Lady Owls improve to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. Milligan moves to 7-1 on the season and Alvarez earned her first save of the year.
