Showing No Mercy 

Glendora, CA(Softball) – The Lady Owls continued to roll as it won its 7th game in its past 8 tries. The Lady Owls mixed some good hitting with dominant pitching as they cruised to a 9-1 6 inning win over visiting LA Valley College in a Western States Conference match-up Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Caitlin TolanCorinne Milligan, whose miniscule ERA of 1.10 puts her as a favorite to repeat as WSC Pitcher of the Year, continued to mow down batters as she struck out 12 batters on her way to only giving up 2 hits and only one earned run Tuesday. Milligan lone run came in the top of the 5th inning when Francess Alvarez led the inning off with a triple, and later scoring on a fielder’s choice to 1st base.

As for the Citrus offense, they enjoyed a field day at the plate. After Caitlin Tolan got things going with a single to left-field in the bottom of the 1st. Nicole Frusher drove her in from third for the Lady Owls first run of the day.

While they were held scoreless the next inning, the bats really exploded an inning later when in the bottom of the third Denis Hernandez started things off by getting on base after getting hit by a pitch. Caitlin Tolan followed that up with another single, before Ashlie Paradez bunted the runners over to second and third on a sacrifice. Milligan then stepped the dish and cleared the bases with a triple to right-center field.

The Lady Owls weren’t done however Milligan would score after Rachel Luna reached first base on a error by the Valley second baseman. After Melanie Hansen hit a double to right-center driving into two more runs, the Lady Owls finally finished the inning as Kristine Escujuri flied out to right field.

The Lady Owls ended the game three innings later when Escujuri got on base in the bottom of the 6th, with Denise Hernandez following with a single to right-field. With runners on first and third, Tolan recorded her third hit of the game with a triple shot to left field. Paradez, capped things off when she drove Tolan in with a double to left-center.

The Lady Owls corralled 9 hits over 6 innings, and were led on offense by Tolan and Milligan. Milligan finished the day 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s, while Tolan’s day finished 3 of 4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI’s.

With the win the Lady Owls improve to 21-7 and 11-2 in conference play. Milligan also moves her record to 14-4. The Lady Owls will hit the road on Saturday for a double-header with Imperial Valley. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
