Glendora, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team played host to East LA College for a pair of games on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Owls committed five errors between the two games and suffered back to back close losses 3-6 and 4-6 at the hands of the Huskies.

In the first game, Citrus committed two of their three errors in the third inning helping the Huskies take an early 3-0 lead. The Lady Owls were able to fight back in the fifth inning, using a pair of wild pitches and an RBI double from Courtney Mihm to knot the game up at 3-3.

East LA came back in the very next inning with an RBI single and then piled it on with two more unearned runs in the seventh to grab the 6-3 win in the first game.

The Huskie’s hitting picked up right where they left when it came to the second game. East LA got a two RBI single from Samantha Montiel to take an early 2-0 advantage. They would add another run in the fourth, taking a seemingly commanding 3-0 lead in to the bottom of fourth.

That’s when Citrus’ bats came alive. Jennifer Fontan’s single would be followed by a sacrifice bunt, and then a pair of back to back RBI’s as Citrus closed the gap to one run. That gap would be closed in the fifth when, sophomore Cassie Ward’s two RBI single to right-center gave the Lady Owls a temporary 4-3 lead.

Temporary because East LA came back and tied the game back up in the very next inning, taking advantage of another Citrus error to send the game into extra innings. Once there, the Huskies put the Owls away for good, scoring two unanswered runs in the bottom of the eighth to get their 6-4 win over Citrus.

With the pair of losses, Citrus falls to 16-14 overall while East LA improves to 20-10. The Lady Owls will try and bounce back this Tuesday as they play host to Canyons College. Tuesday will also be the day that the college dedicates the softball field. The dedication ceremony is set for a 2:00 PM start, with the first pitch following at 3:00 PM.
