Glendora, CA (Softball) -- Over the past two weeks, the Citrus College softball team’s offense has been on fire. The Lady Owls rolled up over 64 hits in their last six contests. That roll came to a close on Thursday afternoon, when Citrus was held to just one hit in a 1-8 loss to Fullerton College.
The Lady Owls’ lone hit came from their very first batter of the game, when freshman Amanda Herrera legged out an infield single to the left side of the field. After that Citrus went down in order all the way through the fifth inning.
While Citrus was struggling to muster up a hit, the Hornets had no issues collecting them in droves. Fullerton recorded a total of 15 hits throughout their seven innings of work, scoring a run in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings.
While the Lady Owls failed to get a hit after Herrera’s lead off single, they did manage to score a run, thanks to a lead-off walk by pinch-hitter Ashley Corrigan. Corrigan would score two batters later, thanks to a miscue in the field by Fullerton that cut the Hornets lead to three runs.
That all went out the window two innings later, when Fullerton put the game away for good with a four run explosion that gave them their seven run margin.
With the loss Citrus falls to 21-18 overall, while Fullerton improves to 27-7. The Lady Owls will try and bounce back from Thursday’s poor offensive showing with a home hosted double-header against Orange Coast College. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
