Ward Going to William Penn

Glendora, CA (Softball) -- Sophomore Cassie Ward became the second Lady Owl to sign a scholarship offer this past week, as Ward signed on to continue her playing career at William Penn University.

“I chose William Penn because they offered me a chance to start and play right away,” Ward said. “They are a small school and offer a good student to teacher ratio

During the 2009 season Ward appeared in 44 games for the Lady Owls (including 43 starts) batting .289 with a team high 34 RBI’s. Ward also drew a team high 27 walks and posted a .503 on-base percentage, the 7th best mark in program history.

“Over the past two year at Citrus, it’s made me realize that I can be more than a community college student,” Ward said. “I’ve learned that I can excel at the next level on the field and in the classroom.”

“Cassie has more pride than anyone I have ever coached.  This girl wants to be successful in everything she does and her work ethic and drive are a tribute to that,” said Citrus College Head Softball Coach Jackie Boxley. “William Penn runs a program similar to ours which will help Cassie to move right in and become the leader on and off the field that she is.  Cassie has been a huge part of our softball family and her legacy is secure, we wish her the best and most success the next two years at William Penn.”

Ward will be joined by three other Citrus athletes at William Penn this season, with Women’s Basketball player Caitlyn Hernandez and Baseball’s Evelio Ahumada and Jesus Sanchez also signing scholarship offers with the Statesman.
