Splitting HairsAfter being rained out for over a week, the Citrus College softball team finally got on the field for their first home contests of the season as they played host to Ventura College and Victory Valley College on Wednesday afternoon. Maura BetterAzusa, CA (Softball) -- Freshman Maura Aguilar went 2 for 3 with 2 run’s scored in helping lead the Lady Owls to their first conference win of the season with a 8-5 victory over visiting Allan Hancock College. Citrus used two big innings and 10 hits to distance themselves from the Bulldogs. Slow GoingAzusa, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team corralled eight hits over seven innings, but never mustered a run in a 0-4 loss to LA Pierce on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Owls had numerous opportunities to cash in on those hits, but never quite came through as they dropped to 1-3 in conference play. Finally HomeGlendora, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team made their long awaited debut at their brand new on-campus softball complex on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Owls hosted Oxnard College and got things off on the right foot picking up a 6-4 victory. Sweep MercyGlendora, CA (Softball) -- After suffering four straight losses in a pair of double-headers last week, the Citrus College softball team continued to turn things around on Thursday afternoon, as they followed up Tuesday’s 7-1 win at Glendale, with a pair of mercy rule wins over visiting Bakersfield College. The Lady Owls swept both games against the Renegades in five innings, winning 9-0 in the first and 9-1 in the second. My Favorite MartinGlendora, CA (Softball) -- Citrus College sophomore Kelly Martin picked up her 12th win of the season, struck out three batters, and gave up just one earned run and five hits in the Lady Owls’ 4-1 win over LA Valley on Tuesday afternoon. Martin also chipped in on the offensive side, going 1 for 3 with one RBI. Error OperatorGlendora, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team played host to East LA College for a pair of games on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Owls committed five errors between the two games and suffered back to back close losses 3-6 and 4-6 at the hands of the Huskies. Missed OpportunityGlendora, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team had Canyons College right where they wanted them. They had them in 0-2 hole, with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, and had Jessica Fridwall popped up to shallow left field. Hitting On All CylindersGlendora, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team snapped a four game skid on Thursday afternoon sweeping visiting Glendale College 11-4 and 7-1. The Lady Owls rapped 21 hits in the two games, including a season high 15 in the first contest. Softball One Hit By FullertonGlendora, CA (Softball) -- Over the past two weeks, the Citrus College softball team’s offense has been on fire. The Lady Owls rolled up over 64 hits in their last six contests. That roll came to a close on Thursday afternoon, when Citrus was held to just one hit in a 1-8 loss to Fullerton College. Mihm’s The WordGlendora, CA (Softball) -- After getting one-hit against Fullerton College on Thursday afternoon the Citrus College softball team came back with a vengeance in Saturday’s home hosted double-header with Orange Coast College. The Lady Owls recorded 22 hits between the two games, with sophomore Courtney Mihm leading the way going 4 for 6 with 4 RBI’s in Citrus’ 7-6 and 8-4 wins. Citrus’ 2009 season came to a close on Tuesday evening, and like it’s been all year long, the Lady Owls were on the doorstep and weren’t able to get across the threshold, losing 4-5 in extra innings to LA Mission College. Corrigan Continues With PuebloGlendora, CA (Softball) -- Sophomore Ashley Corrigan has signed a scholarship offer with Colorado State University Pueblo. Corrigan, who appeared in 22 games for the Lady Owls batting .231 and posting a .362 on-base percentage, looks to bolster a Thunder Wolf squad that appeared in the NCAA Division II Central Regionals. Former Lady Owls Square Off in NAIA TournamentDecatur, AL (Softball) -- Former Citrus College teammates Melanie Hansen (Arcadia HS) and Kristine Escujuri (West Covina HS) have met up back on the softball field two years after they last played together for the Lady Owls. Spots Still Available for Softball CampGlendora, CA (Softball) -- Spots are still available for the upcoming Citrus College Softball Camp. The Lady Owls are hosting two sessions the first from June 29 – July 3, and the second running from July 13-17. Turbo ChargedGlendora, CA (Softball) -- Citrus College freshman Amanda “Turbo” Herrera highlight the Lady Owls’ post season honors this past weekend, when she was named to the All-Southern California team. Herrera is the third Lady Owl under Head Coach Jackie Boxley to be bestowed with the honor. Ward Going to William PennGlendora, CA (Softball) -- Sophomore Cassie Ward became the second Lady Owl to sign a scholarship offer this past week, as Ward signed on to continue her playing career at William Penn University. |
