Decatur, AL (Softball) -- Former Citrus College teammates Melanie Hansen (Arcadia HS) and Kristine Escujuri (West Covina HS) have met up back on the softball field two years after they last played together for the Lady Owls.
Instead of sitting in the same dugout, this time the two will be on opposite sides of the field, and will be playing against each other in the 2009 NAIA Softball Championships in Decatur, Alabama.
Both Hansen’s (Concordia University Irvine) and Escujuri’s (Missouri Valley College) teams qualified for the 2009 NAIA Softball Championships, and both were placed in the same pool (Pool C) for the opening pool play round.
The two teams kicked off their 2009 post season by playing one another earlier this afternoon. Concordia came away with the opening round victory, pulling out a 1-0 win in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hansen started as the designated player and went 2 for 3 for the Eagles.
The two teams resume play tomorrow afternoon, with Missouri Valley taking on Dickinson State at 9:30 AM (PST), and Concordia drawing Northwood University Texas Campus at 2:30 PM (PST).
