    Lucky Number 13

    Thursday, March 18, 2010

Glendora, CA (Softball) -- Who says the number 13 is unlucky anyways? While it certainly wasn’t because of luck, but rather skill, the Citrus College softball team (ranked #20 in the State) rolled up 13 hits and racked up 13 runs in a 13-0 mercy rule win over visiting Santa Monica College.

The Lady Owls really didn’t waste any time jumping all over the visiting Corsairs, getting three runs each in the first and second innings. As the offense was hitting on all cylinders so too was freshman pitcher Kimberly Lopez, who was perfect in three innings of work as she struck out seven batters. Lopez continued her home hitless streak, as she hasn’t given up a hit in her last 12 and 2/3rds innings of work in the friendly confines of Citrus College Field.

The Lady Owls would continue their offensive prowess in the third inning as they put the game away with a seven spot. Freshman Hannah Carter was the big winner in the inning as she had a 2 RBI double to left-center field. When all was said and done 10 Lady Owls recorded a hit in Thursday’s contest.

With the win, Citrus improves to 15-12 overall and 5-1 in WSC Blue Division games, while Santa Monica falls to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in conference games. The Lady Owls are off until next Thursday when they travel to LA Valley to take on the Monarchs. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
