Glendora, CA (Softball) – Citrus College freshman Kimberly Lopez struck out five batters, surrendered no walks, and most importantly gave up no hits, as she pitched Citrus’ first no-hitter in recent memory. Citrus committed two errors keeping Lopez from a perfect game, as she faced just 23 batters in seven innings in their 5-0 win over visiting Glendale College.
Lopez dominated from the start, striking out the first batter she faced, then striking out the side in the second inning. With Lopez cruising, Citrus picked up their first run of the game in the bottom of the second, and then four more in the third, three thanks to a three-run bomb off the bat of Tamara Robles her fourth of the year.
With a 5-0 lead at her back, Lopez continued to mow down the Vaqueros, setting them down in order in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Lopez only allowed base runners on in the sixth inning, when Citrus committed three errors. Despite the defensive short-comings, the Fighting Owls clamped down and didn’t allow a run, and Lopez sat them down in a row in the seventh to close out the game.
Lopez improved to 7-6 in the win, while the Fighting Owls moved to 12-10 overall and 4-0 in WSC Blue Division Play. Citrus continued their long week, on Saturday as they play in a triangular at Chaffey College. The Lady Owls will take on Chaffey at 1:00 PM, then #7 East LA at 3:00 PM.
