Glendora, CA (Softball) -- The Citrus College softball team suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of #1 Cypress College on Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers three hit the Lady Owls, and Citrus struck out seven times in the loss.
Tuesday afternoon’s game turned out to be a pitcher’s duel through the early innings. Citrus’ Kimberly Lopez and Cypress’ Katrina Pinkowski went toe to toe through the first three innings, with Cypress scraping out an unearned run in the top of the third inning. Lopez responded on her in the bottom of the same inning when she sent a bomb over the center field fence.
With the game tied up at 1-1, Cypress finally got a little bit into Lopez in the top of the fourth inning when a Jackie Orosco sacrifice fly to center field and Courtney McCarthy single to the same spot gave Cypress a 3-1 lead.
Citrus’ best opportunity to take back the lead would come in the bottom of the same inning, when “Turbo” Herrera got a two-out single through the left side of the field. Tamara Robles followed it up with a single to right field, but the rally died a batter later when Lauren Pulley struck out looking.
Cypress grabbed another run in the top of the fifth with a solo shot of their own, this one off the bat of Amanda Fama, as the Cypress pitching set the Lady Owls down in order over the final three innings to preserve the win.
With the loss, Citrus falls to 7-10, while Cypress improved to 8-0. The Lady Owls will try and bounce back on Thursday as they travel North to take on #16 Ventura College. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
