Glendora, CA (Softball) -- Freshman Brittany Vasquez’s walk off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning propelled Citrus College to a 6-5 win over Pasadena on Thursday night. Vasquez was 2 for 3 on the night and got her lone RBI in the final at bat of the game.
Citrus started off the game on the right foot. Freshman Kristin Breslau got things started with a single to left-center field with one out in the first. Sophomore Amanda Herrera followed that up with a triple to left field, scoring Breslau from first.
Herrera would score on the very next play when Rae Anne Redmon lifted a deep fly ball to right field that was hauled in by Pasadena, but was still deep enough for Herrera to tag up and score.
Leading 2-0, Citrus would add a run in the third and two more in the fifith. The run in the third came when Breslau’s fielder choice scored Vasquez from third, and their runs in the fifth were courtesy of an RBI single from Jessica Kosharek and RBI ground out by Herrera.
Leading by five runs in the sixth, Citrus looked as if they would cruise to their third victory of the season, but Pasadena had a monster inning in them as they came out of nowhere with five runs in the top of the sixth inning.
After stopping the Lancers in the top of the seventh, Citrus got the chance they wanted to win the game in the bottom half of the inning. Pasadena did as much as they could to help them as a hit batter and back to back errors led to bases loaded and no outs for the Lady Owls.
After Kosharek and Kimberly Lopez failed to drive in a run, Vasquez stepped to the plate and ripped a shot over the centerfielders head to win the game.
With the win, Citrus improves to 3-4 while Pasadena falls to 2-3. The Lady Owls will take the weekend off before coming continuing their current five game home stand as they play host to Cypress College. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM on Tuesday.
