Ventura, CA (Swimming) -- The Citrus College men's swim team finished in third place, while the women took fifth in the Western State Conference Swimming Championships held this past weekend. Freshman Weston Locatell had the highest individual finish for any Fighting Owls swimmer with a silver medal in the 100 Yard Butterfly (52.41).

Along with his second place finish in the Fly, Locatell took 5th in the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:01.74. Locatell took sixth in the primary, but save his best effort for last, finishing one spot closer in the finals. Locatell also helped anchor a relay team that fared well this weekend. Locatell and company (Ken Kalinisan and Brian and Peter Smiley) finished in 4th in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:39.85.

Fellow relay teammate Kalinisan also turned in a few strong showings. Kalinisan finished 5th in the 100 Butterfly (54.60) and 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke (1:00.32). The Citrus men also got a good time from their 400 Freestyle Relay team. The team consisting of Locatell, Miles Deamer, and Brian and Peter Smiley took 4th in the event.

For the women, both Marie Alvarado and Christina Okun had the strongest showing of any Citrus female swimmer. Alvarado took 5th in the 1650 Free with a time of 22:24.39, while Okun grabbed sixth place in the 50 Free with a time of 26.49 in the finals, .27 seconds faster then her preliminary time.

With diver Lisa Mooney grabbing a state championship slot in the 1M & 3M dives last weekend, four men will be joining her thanks in large part to their finishes this past weekend. Locatell, Kalinisan, and the Smiley brothers will all be participating in the State Championships this weekend at Saddleback College. Joining those five will Torry Geiger who qualified as a alternate in the 1Meter Dive. For more information on the events click here.
