Swimming Kicks Off in the State's Capital 

Sacramento, CA (Swimming) -- The Citrus College swim and dive program kicked off its 2008 schedule this past weekend as it swam in the state's capital at the Sacramento City College Invitational. The Fighting Owls were impressive in their opening event, grabbing strong times in the sprint events.

Freshman Weston Locatell put forth the most impressive performance of the day winning the 100 Yard Fly, with a time of 53.34 seconds. His time was a full second and half faster than his nearest competitor and .56 seconds faster than his preliminary time.

Sophomore Ken Kalinisan also put together a strong day, taking second place in the 100 Yard Breast-stroke with a time of 1:00.66. Kalinisan's championship heat time, was a full five seconds faster than his preliminary heat time of 1:05.73. On the women's side, it was Marie Alvarado with weekends best placement, as she finished 21st in the 200 Yard Free-style with a time of 2:24.29.

The swim team will take a break this week, before they kick off their conference schedule with a meet against LA Valley and Bakersfield College at Bakersfield College on Friday March 7th. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.
