Santa Clarita, CA (Swim and Dive) -- Sophomore Jordan Rivas and freshman Sara Valiferdowsi led the Fighting Owls at their conference opening WSC Quad hosted by Canyons College on Friday afternoon. Rivas posted a first and second place finish, while Valiferdowsi posted a pair of second place finishes for the day.
Rivas’ 1st and 2nd place finished came both in freestyle events. Rivas took the top spot in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 49.81, and runner-up position in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:53.87. The other top performer on the men’s side was Nathan Fernandez, who finished tied for 2nd in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.06.
On the women’s side, Valiferdowsi led the Lady Owls with a second place finish in the 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:29.30) and also in the 500 Yard Freestyle (5:46.04). Sophomore’s Brittany Orduno, Brianna Di Carlo and Jennifer Diaz all also had good events.
Orduno took third (27.96) in the 50 Yard Freestyle, while Di Carlo (1:17.41) and Diaz (2:23.51) both grabbed fifth place spots in the 100 Yard Individual Medley and 200 Yard Freestyle events respectively.
The Fighting Owls will be back in the water this weekend as they take part in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. The meet goes all day Friday and Saturday.
