Glendora, CA (Swimming) -- The Citrus College Men’s and Women’s swim team split with Santa Monica in a home hosted dual meet on Friday afternoon. The men won convincingly out-scoring the Corsairs 174-64, while the women just missed losing 112-142.
As he does so far this year, sophomore Jordan Rivas led the way for the Fighting Owls. Rivas won both the 100 (49.97) and 200 (1:52.68) Yard Freestyle events, winning both by a combined 28 seconds.
Also turning in dominating performances were Ruben Acosta who won the 200 Yard Individual Medley race by 11 seconds with a time of 2:19.02, and Nathan Fernandez who won the 100 Yard Breaststroke by 7 seconds with a time of 1:06.59.
For the women, Jennifer Diaz beat out her fellow competitors in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:21.82. Her time would turn out to be 3 full seconds faster than the second place finisher from Santa Monica.
Sophomore Brittany Orduno showed grit, eking out a victory in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 30.43 second or three-tenths of a second faster than the second place swimmer.
The Fighting Owls will be back in the water next weekend as they participate in their second invitational of the season. Citrus will be competing in the Cuesta Invite, next Friday and Saturday March 12-13 in San Luis Obispo, CA.
