Walnut, CA (Swimming) -- The Citrus College men’s swimming team got off to a great start this past weekend. The Fighting Owls finished 10th out of 17 competing teams in the first scoring meet of the year at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The men got some great performances from their relays and from returning All-American Weston Locatell to help lead them to the strong finish.
Things started off well for Citrus with their 400 Free Relay finishing 3rd with a time of 3:17.49. The Fighting Owls continued to back that up as the weekend went along finishing 5th in the 400 Medley Relay (3:46.07) and 8th in the 200 Free Relay (1:31.82).
With the relays performing well, the individual swimmers continued to impress, as Citrus garnered a total of 9 top 20 finished throughout the weekend. Leading the way was Locatell who had three top 5 finishes.
Locatell would start things off by finishing 2nd in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 52.64 seconds, just 6/10 of a second begin the first place finisher. Locatell then followed that up with a 3rd place finish in the 200 IM (2:02.17) and a 4th place finish in the 100 Free (48.81).
For the women, Laila Elsherif, Kim Aguilar, and Jenn Marshall would all come through with the best performances of the day. Elsherif finished 31st in the 500 Free (2:40.58), Aguilar 37th in the 50 Backstroke (35.29), and Marshall 38th in the 50 Breaststroke (37.79).
Citrus will take the next week off before beginning conference meets on March 5th with a trip up to Cuesta College.
