Esparza Saves Her Best for Last

Bakersfield, CA (Track and Field) -- Jen Esparza, who has been in the top two spots of the WSC for the javelin the entire season, saved her best effort for her last conference stint when she threw the javelin for a personal record 121 feet 10 inches at the Western States Conference finals this past weekend at Bakersfield College. Her throw vaulted her into 1st place, and set her up as the second ranked javelin thrower in the state.

While Esparza was the big Citrus story at the conference finals, there were several other Citrus athletes who put together strong performances. Kenneth Boggs added an new personal record to his repertoire with a time of 15.85 seconds in the 110m Hurdles, which put him in 4th place. Tarynn Myers also had a strong time in the 100m Dash with a time of 10.85 seconds which was good enough for 3rd place. Rounding out things on the men's side was O'Neill Roussell who took 4th place in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet and seven and a half inches.

Other top performers on the women's side included Christina Palmer and Rachel Raper. Palmer finished 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet and seven and half inches, while Raper placed 2nd in the hammer throw (151'4") and 3rd in the discusĀ (111'1").
