Glendora, CA (Track and Field) – In only its second conference meet of the season, the Citrus College Women’s Track and Field team posted an impressive performance as it placed 2nd in the Western States Conference meet it hosted Friday. The Lady Owls scored 73 points, just 8 points off the winner LA Valley and 26 points above the third place finisher Glendale.
Cristina Palmer had a huge showing for the Lady Owls as she scored points in all 4 events she participated in for Citrus. Palmer took 3rd in the Women’s 100M dash with a time of 13.54 seconds. Palmer also took 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 16 feet 10 inches, and 1st in the triple jump with a jump of 35 feet 5 inches. Palmer rounded things out by helping lead the Lady Owls to a 2nd place finish in the 4x100 relay, and 3rd in the 4x400 relay.
Other top performers on the women’s side were Gina Woosley who took 5th in the Women’s 100M Hurdles (19.59), Nyisha Pirtle who took 2nd in the shot-put (32 feet 9 inches) and 2nd in the javelin (26m), Rachel Raper who finished just behind Pirtle in the shot-put with a throw of 30 feet 7 inches, and Jen Esparza. Esparza out-threw 8 other girls to take first in the javelin with a distance of 29.25 meters.
On the men’s side, Taryn Meyers led the way with 1st place finish in the 200M dash with a blazing time of 22.43 seconds. Meyers also finished 3rd in the 400M dash just barely missing out on second place with a fast time of 50.96 seconds.
O’Neill Roussell also posted a strong showing for the Fighting Owls as he took 1st in the shot-put (48 feet 1 ¾ inches), 1st in the discus (132 feet 6 inches), and 2nd in the hammer throw (41.73M). The Citrus men finished 4th out of the 5 teams with a score of 34 points.
