Moorpark, CA (Track and Field) -- Sophomore Kenneth Boggs won the WSC 110 Meter Hurdles Championships this past weekend, and helped lead the Fighting Owls to an 8th place finish out of 13 teams in the past weekends Western State Conference Track and Field Finals. The women would finish 12th, but Boggs was the highlight in what was a strong showing for Citrus.
Going into this weekends finals Boggs ran an average 15.68 in the preliminaries, but come this weekend Boggs made it count when it mattered most, shaving .65 seconds of his preliminary time to run a blazing 15.03 in the championship heat. Boggs also had a great showing in the 400 Meter Hurdles, as he finished 6th (57.58) in the finals after placing 8th in the prelims.
Other good days came from Ediyani Daniel and James Stewart who both placed in the top five in their respective events. Daniel grabbed 5th in the High Jump with a height of 6 feet 1 inch, while Stewart finished an impressive 2nd in the 400M Dash. Stewart's time of 49.69 seconds was just .91 seconds than the first place finisher. Citrus also got a great finish from their 4 x 400 Meter Relay team, that took sixth place with a time of 3:27.82.
On the women's side, Jennifer Lawrence and Christina Soto turned in the best finishes for any Citrus women. Lawrence took fourth in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 114 feet 1 inch, while Soto grabbed sixth place in the 1500 Meter run with a time of 5:23.58.
While the Fighting Owls have ran and thrown well thus far, they still aren't down, as they will travel to Bakersfield, CA this weekend for the Southern California Preliminaries with the SoCal Championships following the next weekend. Qualifiers for the Prelims will be released later this week.
