Bakersfield, CA (Track & Field) -- Freshman javelin thrower Jennifer Lawrence was the lone Fighting Owl to advance to the Southern California finals, after last weekends Southern California Preliminaries hosted by Bakersfield College. Lawrence took sixth out of 27 throwers with a throw of 121 feet 9 inches. Lawrence, who also participated in the 400M Hurdles (1:11.52, 17th place), will represent Citrus this coming weekend back at Bakersfield College for the SoCal Finals.
Although Citrus moved on just one athlete, there was still some noteable performances this past weekend. Kenneth Boggs, who won the WSC Championship in the 110M Hurdles, took 13th in that event this weekend. His time of 15.59 seconds was faster than 12 other individuals who participated.
Distance runner Tina Soto also fared well this weekend. Soto was the only other Citrus athlete to finish with a top 15 performance as she took 15th out of the 27 participants. Soto ran a 5:18.70 in the 1500 Meter run just missing out on a finals berth.
