Bakersfield, CA (Track & Field) -- If one really is the loneliest number, then freshman javelin thrower Jennifer Lawrence didn't show any trepidation this weekend as the only Citrus College athlete of any sport left still competing. Lawrence who took sixth in the SoCal Prelims just a week ago, moved up two spots to grab fourth place in the Southern California Finals this past weekend at Bakersfield College.
On a day when the top two seeded women's javelin throwers fell way short of there expected results, Lawrence proved to be the model of consistency throwing the javelin 120 feet 3 inches, just a foot and half shorter than her prelim mark. Despite come up just shy of her preliminary throw, Lawrence proved to be the fourth best thrower on Saturday, and advanced to the State Championships as the sixth ranked thrower in the State.
For the second consecutive weekend, Lawrence will continue to be the lone Citrus athlete competing, as she will travel to nearby Cerritos, CA to participate in the CCCAA State Championships at Cerritos College. Lawrence's event will take place at noon on this Friday May 16th.
