San Luis Obispo, CA (Track and Field) -- The Citrus College men's and women's track and field teams both placed third in the WSC Meet hosted by Cuesta College last Friday. The men finished just four points out of second place, while the women beat the fourth place squad by 24 points.
Ediyani Daniel and Evan D'Oyen helped secure strong numbers this weekend from the field events. Daniel took first in the Men's High Jump with a jump of 1.82m (5'11.5"), while D'Oyen grabbed first place finishes in the Hammer and Discus Throws.
On the track side of things, James Stewart and Taylor Sparkman had good showings. Stewart took the 200M Dash, while Sparkman finished second in the 400M Dash with a time of 53.96 seconds. Sparkman narrowly edged fellow Fighting Owl Nathan Martinez, who grabbed third place with a time of 53.99 seconds.
For the women, Christina Soto turned in another great performance in the distance runs. Soto took first in the 3 Kilometer Run (11:54.16) beating her nearest competitor by over a minute and a half. Soto was also strong in the 1500M run, running the race in 5:23.16, for second place.
Other good women's performers on Friday were, Julia Manzo, who took second in the 100M Dash (14.40) and third in the 110M Hurdles (18.58), and Joana Rojas who grabbed a third place finish in the 800M Run (2:50.05).
The Citrus Track and Field squad will resume competition this weekend, as it prepares to participate in the Mt. SAC Community College Relays this weekend Saturday April 12th. The meet is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start.
