Cerritos, CA (Track and Field) -- A week after bursting on to the scene at the WSC Moorpark meet, the Citrus College track and field program faced some stiff competition at the Cerritos Invitational this past weekend. With top teams from all around Southern California attending, the Owls continued to shine through showing promise at every corner.
For the women's program, Citrus got some impressive performances from both the sprints, long distances, and the field events. Christina Soto posted a strong time of 20:56.03 in the 5,000 Meter run, placing third in her heat and 16th overall, and Cynthia Acedo put together the best sprint performance of the weekend for a Lady Owl with a time of 28.02 in the 200 Meter dash. Acedo's time placed her 3rd in her heat and 15th overall.
On the field side, Jennifer Lawrence put forth the best showing of the day, as she threw the javelin 89 feet 11 inches, for 14th place overall. For the men, it was James Stewart and Edigani Daniel who had the best showings of the day. Stewart finished 10th overall in the 400 Meter dash with a time of 51.39, while Daniel finished 24th in the Triple Jump with a distance of 41 feet 1.5 inches.
The Fighting Owls will resume their conference meet schedule this weekend, as they travel to the WSC Meet hosted by Santa Monica on Friday. Start time is set for 2:00 PM.
