D’Oyen, Acedo Headline Cerritos Invite 

Cerritos, CA (Track & Field) -- The Citrus College track and field team faced their stiffest competition yet this past weekend, when the headed up the 605 to participate in the Cerritos Invitational. In a meet that featured some of the best teams from all around Southern California, two athletes in particular shined. Sophomores Cynthia Acedo and Evan D’Oyen were the only two Fighting Owls to place in the top ten in any event.

Acedo brought home the best finish of any athlete finishing 6th in the 400M Dash with a time of 1:02.17. Acedo also had a strong showing in the 200M with a time of 27.16 seconds and a 19th place finish.

Other highlights on the women’s side included sophomore Ashleigh Stover’s 24th place finish in the hammer throw (88 feet 5 inches), and freshman Vanessa Esquivel’s 19th place finish in the 800M run (2:32.60).

On the men’s side, D’Oyen took the cake finishing 7th in the Discus (143 feet 6 inches) and 27th in the Hammer (125 feet 4 inches). Christyn Lewis and Andre Williams would bring home the other two strong showings for the Fighting Owl men. Lewis finished 29th in the 100M Dash (11.60 seconds), while Williams was 25th in the 400M with a time of 53.45 seconds.

Citrus will continue their season this weekend when they travel to Moorpark College for their second WSC Meet of the season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM on Friday.
