Glendale, CA (Track & Field) -- Freshman distance runner Vanessa Esquivel and sophomore thrower Evan D’Oyen both post personal best last Friday for the Fighting Owls at the WSC Event hosted by Glendale College. Esquivel ran the 1500 in a time of 5:04.60, placing her in the top 10 times in the WSC this year, while D’Oyen threw the shot-put for a personal best of 41 feet 5 inches.
Other highlights from Friday’s meet included Cynthia Acedo taking 5th in the 200M (26.29) and 2nd in the 400M with a personal best time of 1:00.67. That time is good for the 6th best mark in the WSC this season.
For the men, Manuel Darby in his first ever time in the javelin took 3rd with a throw of 125 feet 5 inches. D’Oyen continued his dominance of the discus by taking 1st with a throw of 133 feet 4 inches, while fellow Fighting Owl Johnnie Chatman took 3rd with a throw of 109 feet 4.5 inches.
Rounding out Citrus’ day was Daro Johnson taking 3rd in the High Jump with a jump of six feet, while Taylor Sparkman also posted a personal best in the 800M with a time of 2:10.05 and a 6th place finish.
Citrus will continued its 2009 slate in two weeks when it takes part in the Orange County Classic on Friday April 10th.
