Pope and Johnson Move on to Finals

Walnut, CA (Track & Field) -- Christopher Pope and Daro Johnson were the only two Citrus athletes to move on to the SoCal Finals after this weekend's SoCal Prelims. Pope moves on in the high jump, while Johnson continues in the triple jump.

Pope posted a height of six feet five inches in Saturday's event at Mt. San Antonio College. Pope finished in 4th place, and fell two inches shy of his personal best this year. Johnson bested his previous personal record with a distance of 44 feet and 10.25 inches this past weekend. Johnson's jump was good enough for a 10th place finish.

Also competing in this past weekend's prelims were Evan D'Oyen, Vanessa Esquivel, Cynthia Acedo, Nicole Diaz and Ashleigh Stover. D'Oyen finished 14th in the discus with a throw of 131 feet 10 inches, and was just two inches shy of a finals berth.

Esquivel would turn in a 16th place finish in the 1500 M Run (5:03.27), while Acedo wrapped up 14th place with a time of 1:00.05, six-tenths of a second faster than her previous personal best. Stover and Diaz concluded Citrus' participation in the prelims with a finish of 21st and 24th place respectively in the hammer throw.

Johnson and Pope will move on to the Southern California Championships next Saturday May 9th at Mt. San Antonio College. Johnson's event is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start, while Pope is set to start at 5:00 PM.
