Ventura, CA (Track and Field) -- Freshman javelin thrower Matthew Elder looked like a veteran and made a statement on Friday afternoon at the WSC Relays hosted by Ventura College. Elder threw the javelin 158 feet 3 inches, and took second place in the Men’s Javelin Throw. Elder fell just two inches shy of the first place finisher and set the tone for the Citrus Track and Field program at the relays.
The men’s program had a good day overall at the relays, finishing fourth in the 800 Meter Spring Medley Relay with a time of 1:36.39. The Fighting Owls also took third in the 4 x 200 Meter Relay with a time of 1:30.70 and 7th in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay (3:28.09). The only other Fighting Owl to earn a Top 10 finish was Dennis Broderick, who grabbed 6th in the Triple Jump with a distance of 13.32 Meters.
On the women’s side, Maya Avant led the way with the lone Lady Owls Top 10 finish. Avant nabbed 7th place in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.83 Meters. The women also had a strong showing in the 4 x 200 Meter Relay as they took 7th with a time of 2:00 flat.
The Fighting Owls will take the next few weeks off before resuming conference competition on March 19th. Citrus will be participating in the WSC South Meet hosted by Moorpark College. First event is set for a 1:00 PM start.
