Walnut, CA (Track and Field) -- Citrus College sophomore Christopher Pope set a new personal best in the high jump this past weekend at the 51st Annual Mt. SAC Relays. Pope cleared 6 feet 8 inches, the fifth best mark in California Community College this year.
Thanks to his jump, Pope took first place at the relays, tying with Anthony McClendon of Mt. SAC and Michael Curry of Chaffey College.
Other notable finishes for Citrus included sophomore Evan D’Oyen’s performance in the discus. D’Oyen threw 41.64 meters, well short of his personal best of 45.92 meters set earlier this year. Still, D’Oyen placed 13th in the competition.
Also finishing in 13th place was freshman Vanessa Esquivel. Esquivel ran the 1,500 meter run in a time of 5:05.23 less than a second slower then her previous personal best.
With their season nearing the end, the Fighting Owls will participate in the WSC Prelims this coming Saturday at Ventura College. The meet is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
