    Track and Field Has Strong Start at Pitzer All-Comers

    Claremont, CA (Track and Field) -- The 2010 Citrus College Track and Field season got off to a strong start this weekend at the Pomona Pitzer College All-Comers. The Fighting Owls posted nine Top 10 Finishes in what was a promising beginning to their 2010 campaign.

    On the women’s side freshman Shawn Miller led the way posting two Top 10 finishes. Miller finished 4th in the 100 Meter Dash, the best finish of any Lady Owls in any event, with a time of 13.15. Miller also took 9th in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.36.

    Fellow freshman Maya Avant also had a strong day, Avant did well in the 200 Meter and Long Jump taking 8th in the long jump with a distance of 4.67 meters. Rounding out the Top 10 finishes for the women was Cassandra Zolozabal. Zolozabal finished 10th in the shot put, throw the shot put at a distance of 8.14 meters.

    On the men’s side Citrus was led by Matthew Elder and Tyler Hokpins. Elder finished 3rd in the Javelin with a distance of 48.29 meters, while Elder nabbed 5th in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 11.48.

    Other Top 10 finishes on the men’s side included Dennis Broderick’s 7th place finish in the High Jump (1.70 meters), Johnnie Chatman (35.62 meters) and Kriesus Williams (23.12) 9th place finishes in the hammer and 200 Meter dash respectively, and the men’s 4 x 400 Relay taking 10th place out of 20 competing teams with a time of 3:36.56.

    The Fighting Owls will head back out onto the track this Friday as they take part in the WSC Relays hosted by Ventura College. First event is set for 12:00 PM.
