Lady Owls Back in Playoffs as Fifth Seed 

Glendora, CA (Volleyball) – The Citrus College Lady Owl’s Volleyball team season isn’t over yet, as they have earned the #5 seed in the upcoming COA SoCal Playoffs. The Lady Owl’s will play host to Mt. SAC on Tuesday November 21, 2007 in the first round of playoff action. The match will be held at The Owl’s Nest on the campus of Citrus College.

The Lady Owls, who finished their season with 18 wins and only 3 losses,The Lady Owl’s put together a solid regular season campaign finishing with 18 wins and only 3 losses. Citrus took 2nd place in the WSC South, and finished the season ranked 7th in the state of California. After losing two games in the first half of WSC South play, the Lady Owl’s went undefeated in the second half, knocking off previously undefeated LA Pierce in four games last Tuesday. With their second half run, the Lady Owl’s will be undoubtedly carrying a ton of momentum into the playoffs.

Along with their moving on into the 1st round of playoffs, the Lady Owl’s also received some conference and state accolades. Sophomore, Kelly Fink highlighted the awards receiving All-State honors and WSC MVP for the 2nd straight year. Fink will share the MVP award with Pierce’s Ashley Lugo-Brown. Fink led the state in kills per game and the conference in kills. On the season Fink recorded 563 kills with a .369 kill percentage. Fink also registered 38 solo and 90 assists blocks to go along with 46 aces and 328 digs.

Along with Fink, Lucero Vargas and Stephanie Gautier received First Team All-WSC honors. Vargas was second on the team with 315 kills and a .351 kill percentage. Gautier finished the regular season with some outstanding defensive play, leading the team in digs with 339.

Two freshmen and a sophomore earned Second Team All-WSC status, this past weekend. Freshman Janelle Martinez and Lauren Bjorklund along with sophomore Jennifer Washington were honored for their efforts. Martinez was second in the conference in total assists recording 957 assists on the season including an outstanding 12.1 assist per game. Bjorklund was third on the team in kills and blocks, recording 165 kills (.348) and 35 solo and 93 assist blocks. Jennifer Washington was tops in the conference in blocks leading the Lady Owl’s with 61 solo and 126 assist blocks.

Rounding out the regular season honors is Tracy Lofgren who served as a utility player of sorts, playing outside hitter for most of the season, but stepping in at setter for a brief time in the middle of the season. Lofgren finished her season with 236 assists and 184 digs on her way to All-WSC Honorable Mention honors.

Game time for Tuesday’s 1st round playoff match-up will be at 7:00 pm.
