Lady Owls Fall in 2nd Round of Playoffs 

Woodland Hills, CA (Volleyball) -- After splitting their regular season match-up with fellow WSC South member LA Pierce, the Citrus College volleyball team had one final match this season to settle the score with the Brahma’s in the second round of the SoCal playoffs at LA Pierce. The match turned out to be like both of the previous matches, hotly contested and close until the end.

Jennifer Washington (15) led the Lady Owl's on the net, in Saturday's 2-3 loss to LA Pierce In the first game, the Lady Owl’s came out flat losing badly 30-16. After regaining their confidence, the Lady Owl’s came out strong in the second game winning 30-25. In the third game the Lady Owl’s continued building upon the momentum they started in the second game. Citrus jumped out to a 22-14 lead, but Pierce battled back cutting the Citrus lead to 2 at 27-25. The Owl’s would stumble, however, as Pierce scored five of the next six points to win the 3rd game 30-28.

The 4th game saw Pierce stumble, and the Lady Owl’s with a chance to redeem themselves. Trailing 22-17, the Lady Owl’s rallied back and went on to win the 4th game 31-29. In the 5th and final game the Owl’s came out flat and couldn’t pull of the minor upset losing in the final game 15-9.

In the loss Kelly Fink led all Lady Owl’s with 12 kills, and Lucero Vargas and Lauren Bjorklund each chipped in with 11 apiece. Jennifer Washington did her best on the net recording 7 blocks, while Janelle Martinez finished her season recording 38 assists.

With the loss, the Lady Owl’s finish their season with nothing to hang their head about and a 19-4 record.
